Coldboot Haxchi (also known as CBHC) is a version of Haxchi that automatically launches on boot. Care must be taken, as there are several bricking risks.
Bricking risks
To prevent your Wii U from being bricked, do not do any of the following:
- Do NOT move the CBHC channel to a USB device or anywhere outside the NAND.
- Do NOT uninstall the Coldboot Haxchi channel without properly uninstalling Coldboot Haxchi first.
- Do NOT format the system memory.
- Do NOT delete the user that bought the DS game Haxchi was installed on top of.
- Do NOT download the DS game Haxchi was installed on after CBHC was installed.
- Do NOT install Haxchi again inside CBHC.
- Do NOT install with a Non-legit title.
Uninstalling
Before uninstalling CBHC (for example, to install Tiramisu), be sure to follow this procedure.
- Open the Homebrew Launcher.
- Open the CBHC installer.
- Select the DS game you used to install Haxchi and CBHC.
- Press B to uninstall CBHC.
- Verify that CBHC is no longer installed by rebooting (holding HOME if autobooting was enabled) before continuing
- Delete the CBHC channel through Data Management. The DS game can be recovered from the eShop.
Installation
This is generally not needed, as Tiramisu/Aroma has replaced CBHC.
- READ THE WARNINGS ABOVE!
- Install regular Haxchi if you have not done so already.
- Open the Haxchi Channel.
- Open the Haxchi Channel again, but hold A to load the Homebrew Launcher.
- Download the CBHC installer via the Homebrew App Store.
- Run the CBHC installer.
- When prompted to select a DS Virtual Console game, select the same one you installed Haxchi on.
- Press A to install CBHC.
- Reboot your console to allow CBHC to start.
- There should be a new channel installed: the CBHC channel. Move the CBHC channel to an empty screen so it doesn't get deleted by accident.

How it works
CBHC replaces the /vol/system/config/system.xml to tell Cafe OS that the CBHC channel is the System Menu. This allows it to run and load anything it wants, similar to Priiloader on the Wii. This CBHC channel has the loader seen when booting. Because of this, removing the CBHC channel from the NAND makes it impossible for the Wii U to boot, and therefore bricks it.
Additionally, because Haxchi loads the System Menu using the title ID that CBHC overwrites, installing Haxchi again without uninstalling CBHC causes Haxchi to constantly boot itself, bricking the Wii unless Haxchi was configured to have an option to boot to the Homebrew Launcher.
